There are no two ways about it —a Labrador X Golden Retriever from Dogs for Good has not only changed Simon Cook’s day-to-day life, but saved him from the desolation and despair he felt during the first seven months of the coronavirus pandemic.
In fact, if the 58-year-old former paraplegic athlete hadn’t applied for an assistance dog from the UK-wide charity in 2019, and fortuitously been matched with two-year-old Axel just before the second lockdown, he doesn’t think he would be here now.
