AUGUST DAY
★★★
Credit to Berlin for spotting how, despite the number of orchestrally enhanced albums emerging these days, almost none have utilised the punning title that they’ve unearthed. Credit’s due, too, for improving some songs despite what’s normally a slightly redundant process. The primitive synths of early single The Metro, for instance, and its more Moroder-esque follow-up Sex (I’m A…) bask in these string arrangements, and You Don’t Know benefits from the additional drama. Take My Breath Away, however, was already pretty overblown in the first place.
