While the previous year’s I Say I Say I Say had reached No.1, 1995’s self-titled seventh Erasure album limped in at No.14. As well as its release at the height of anti-synth laddism in Britpop, Erasure appears to be paying for the sins of its overly busy predecessor, as it’s a much better record, given 27 years’ distance to reflect on its atypical charms.
