DECO
DESTINATION: I DON’T KNOW
MODERN SKY
★★★★
Nottingham synth-pop band Deco first gained notoriety online for inventive 80s-inspired mashups: think Wonderwall sung in the style of Smalltown Boy. The group’s debut album of original music, Destination: I Don’t Know proves those viral moments were no flukes. Deco put a contemporary spin on familiar 80s motifs such as bubblegum R&B (If I Could Fall In Love), driving electro (Temporary), and funky pop (I Love That Song). There’s also a whiff of Miami Vice cool in the danceable DON’T!, with pounding drums and a blazing guitar solo.
