JAKE BUGG
A MODERN DAY DISTRACTION
RCA
★★★★
Recently championed in these pages by Marc Almond, Jake Bugg enhances his pop clout by enlisting Brian Rawling’s Metrophonic team as producers. While less outright pop than 2021’s Saturday Night Sunday Morning, Bugg triumphs by refreshing his roots. Got To Let You Go has an ELO sweep, I Wrote The Book and Zombieland are his most explicitly political commentaries. Bugg enters his thirties with a fire for heart-racing guitar-pop, with several superb songs merging his youthful zeal with an expert’s use of pace. Highly distracting.
