1080p High-definition video: 1920x1080 pixels.
32bit/64bit A measure of how much data a PC can process at once. Most older computers are 32bit, more modern ones are 64bit.
3G/4G/5G Technologies that deliver faster mobile broadband.
4K Video with a resolution of at least 3840x2160 pixels.
ARM Advanced RISC Machine. Processors that are more energy-efficient and are used in more devices than those made by AMD and Intel.
Cookie A small text file stored on your computer by a website. Used to store browsing preferences, website log-in details and so on.
Copilot+ An enhanced version of Microsoft’s Copilot AI tool. Also used to classify Windows 11 computers with a neural processing unit (NPU) that can perform over 40 trillion operations per second (TOPS).
Core Units on a processor that carry out program instructions.
Crosstalk Means by which different components of a system communicate and transfer data with each other.
Efficiency core Processors used for background tasks that run constantly but don’t require much processing power.
Emoji A small graphic that can be inserted into a text message or email.
Ethernet A standard used for almost all wired computer networks.
Exchange Format A file type or standard used to transfer data between different software, systems or platforms so it can be open and read without problems.
EXE A program file designed to run in Windows. Has the file extension .exe.
GHz Gigahertz. A measure of how many instructions a chip can process per second. 1GHz is equal to 1,000MHz.
GIF Graphics Interchange Format. A type of image file often used on the web, but now largely superseded by PNG.
Gigabit Ethernet A very fast networking standard that can transfer data at up to 1,000Mbps.
Gorilla glass Scratch-resistant glass that’s used to protect the screens of tablets and phones.
