As the festive season looms large, with families and friends coming together to celebrate, to share a meal, a banquet, a drink, DANTE dedicates this issue to the idea of luxury - in all its meanings and nuances. We sometimes groan at the weight of tradition that awaits us and the weight on the table (and the weight we might put on, for that matter!) but there is a spiritual dimension too and here at DANTE, although we do not wish to ignore the idea of luxury in its original Latin meaning of luxus, namely that of excess, indulgence, we explore also the more modern sense of luxury as top-quality and exceptional, something that is luscious and worth paying that extra bit more for, that makes life worth living. However, we found we were naturally led on from material things to things spritual as embodied by exceptional people, who have carved a unique role for themselves with their lives and their creative work and have enhanced ours - all with that Italian twist that we are proud to say is the hallmark of DANTE.
