The prolific MeldaProduction have released Monastery Grand, a free sample-based virtual piano. As the name suggests, the 3.5GB sample library was captured in a monastery near “Czech beer capital” Pilsen, using over a dozen stereo microphones; and sound-shaping parameters include three mic positions, Tone and Width controls, Ambience and more. There’s a handy auto-harmonisation system for chord generation, and as well as the main piano, you also get the entirely separate Monastery Grand Creative instrument, which constantly loops the samples for processing with its onboard resonators and filter.
This ecclesiastic-tastic plugin showcases what the SoundFactory platform can do
Perhaps the most interesting thing about Monastery Grand, though, is that it was built using Melda’s SoundFactory modular virtual instrument platform, which lets anyone construct and sell their own instruments, and enjoy a growing range of user creations.
