The second generation of electronic music legend BT and plugin development powerhouse iZotope’s ’playable’ multi-effect claims to bring “movement to your mix, faster and with more versatility than ever”.
The central premise of Stutter Edit 2 is that banks of ‘gestures’ are mapped to the keys on your MIDI keyboard, each one a distinct rhythmic audio slicing, processing and ‘glitching’ setup, and the new Auto mode lets you hear your gestures instantly with no MIDI routing required. The effects rack has been greatly expanded, too, with new Chorus, Comb, Reverb and Limiter effects; and the multiband Distort module has been upgraded to take in 18 distortion types. Whereas movement of effects parameters within gestures in the original Stutter Edit comprised simple to-and-fro oscillations, v2’s Time Variant Modifiers allow for complex ‘designed’ movement, programmed in a breakpoint curve editor. And naturally, a ton of new BT-made preset gestures have been thrown in as well. Stutter Edit 2 is out now, priced $199.
