SITE work commenced in late October at Ffestiniog Railway’s Boston Lodge works, preparatory to construction of the new Small Loco Shed. The building will provide some facilities for preparing and disposing locos for service, while also enabling small groups of visitors to see the railway’s loco fleet.
This structure is the first new building to be started as part of the £4.2 million Boston Lodge Redevelopment & Interpretation Project, towards which The National Lottery Heritage Fund is contributing £3.1 million (RM, November 2021). The new shed is located at the back of the site under the face of the old quarry to the seaward side of the main Boston Lodge works complex. In time, a new Garratt shed will be built between the current loco shed and this ‘small loco’ shed.
