SCYTHE

REPLAYED
Many games, no matter how enjoyable they were when you first got them, are destined to gather dust on your shelves, neglected in favour of newer, shinier things. Scythe is not one of those games.
Scythe is a game that constantly beckons you back over. It forever draws your attention with its evocative box imagery by Polish artist Jakub Rozalski, whose mech-populated, early-20th century pastoral landscapes were its inspiration, and infuse its every world-built nook and cranny with profound thematic appeal. But Scythe is not just a looker. It is also a game that never fails to reward you for repeat plays, its core set offering five different factions to vary your tactics, with so many paths to victory that they rarely feel retrodden. Even if you've revisited its earthy, dieselpunk battleground dozens of times, it's unlikely you'll feel jaded by your next excursion, thanks to its slick, nifty game flow, where turns tick quickly by and downtime is nothing but an unpleasant taste left by some other, lesser title not fit to lick Scythe's sturdy boots.
