"I’ve always loved writing. My parents encouraged me to keep a diary when I was younger.
I used to read tons of books, too, and I loved to find random new words and use them wherever I could, even if they didn’t quite fit!
My grandma talks a lot about her history and what food meant to her and her family, so as soon as I saw the theme for the competition (Food and Heroes), I knew I had to enter. A couple of years ago I spent a weekend writing down Mama’s life story. We’re close: I used to go to her house every day after school and she’d cook… I’d never not be full when I left. I read my finished piece to her and she was really touched by it.
I felt overwhelmed when I found out I’d won the competition. English is my favourite subject and I’d like to study it at university… I’d love to keep up my passion for creative writing. It’s a way to write out my emotions."
