This shot was taken with a Nikkor Z 24-200mm lens at full stretch, and although it’s certainly sharp enough, the longer telephoto reach of the Z 28-400mm would come in handy.
One lens to rule them all
Q I ride my motorcycle to bike racing events and wanta lightweight single lens for everything from wide paddock shots to telephoto on-track action. Is Nikon’s Z 24-200mm a good choice?

A
The Nikkor Z 24-200mm f/46.3 VR (£949/$899) certainly has your wide-angle paddock shots covered off, but you may
find that 200mm is lacking in telephoto reach for on-track action, depending on how close you can get from your spectating area. If you’re on the outside of bends, with large run-off areas between you and the track, you might need a longer lens.
For more telephoto power at the long end of the zoom range, while still retaining decent wide-angle prowess, I’d go for the Nikkor Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR (£1,399/$1,299). This lens measures 85x142mm and weighs 725g, so it’s manageable and will give you greater room for manoeuvre.
