MARGOT RAGGETT
TheRemembering Wildlifebook series is now in its fifth year. Was there a particular event that moved you to start the project?
I started the series after seeing a poached elephant in northern Kenya. It was such a shock, such a horrific sight. I’d never really understood the extent of poaching in Africa before then. I was moved deeply and decided to take some action; I could not let the moment pass.
So I had the idea of maybe an exhibition or a book, a collaboration with lots of photographers if they’d agree to take part. So Remembering Elephants began, even though at the time I thought it was a one-off.
Prior to
Remembering Wildlife
, what was your background?
I worked in PR in the City of London for 20 years, before leaving in 2010 because I was disillusioned with that world. At that point I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do, but I had a real passion for wildlife photography.
