Canon EOS R6
This full-frame mirrorless packs speed and AF - but does it have enough resolution for the masses? www.canon.co.uk

While its big brother the R5 (reviewed last issue) has got all the headlines, the EOS R6 is in many ways a more fascinating camera - and one that’s going to appeal to a much larger portion of the market. Although impressive, the R5 is simply too much camera for most people. Its 8K video in particular is the tech of tomorrow, rather than today. Most people simply don’t have the storage capacity or the power on their laptops to handle an 8K workflow - and right now, there aren’t many places where 8K files can be shared.
Ditto the R5’s 45MP sensor. It sounds great on paper, but if you want an everyday camera or you shoot action, handling hundreds of massive files often leaves you feeling you’ve bitten off more than you can chew. Enter the EOS R6, which features much of the R5’s underlying tech - like the blistering burst speeds and the astonishing autofocus - but applies it to more manageable specs. Does its 20.1MP sensor go too far in the other direction, though, or is that resolution enough to satisfy the masses?
1 The Canon EOS R6’s form factor is almost identical to that of the EOS RP, but on the interior lie all manner of new magic tricks.
2 The EOS R6 is Canon’s second-ever camera to feature in-body image stabilisation - and delivers up to eight stops of stability.
