Discover Focus Projects 4
Find out how to use this month’s terrific software download gift
Focus stacking is a clever technique that’s used to produce a deep depth of field in an image when conditions prevent front-to-back sharpness being captured. Focus stacking works by combining a set of images taken from exactly the same position, but where the points of focus move from the front to the back of the scene. The resulting batch of photographs are then blended together in software to create a new image with an extended - huge, even - depth of field. While some image editing programs require a variety of steps and procedures to perform focus stacking, Franzis Focus Projects 4 merges a series of photos into one image in just a few clicks. It works as a standalone program or as a plug-in, and also offers added functionality: a range of built-in filters for post-processing, and a Focus-Boost algorithm that further increases the sharpness of the final image.
