Nikon launches Z 5
Entry level full-frame mirrorless will sit between the Z 6 and Z 50 and aims to convert DSLR users and drive upgrades from cameraphones
The Nikon Z 5 was officially announced last month, and is a 24.3MP full-frame camera that sits between the Z 50 and the Z 6. Unlike those models, the Z 5 features dual memory card slots - and can be bought with a new kit lens.
Although it packs a different sensor than the one used in the Z 6, the Z 5 nevertheless borrows many of the Z 6’s features, such as its 273-point hybrid AF system (which can perform Animal AF) five-axis in-body image stabilisation, a ISO 100-51,200 sensitivity range, and a 3,690k-dot EVF. The new model also possesses weather-sealing on a par with the Z 6, and adds a contemporary in-demand function - the ability to be used as a webcam.
Another interesting Z 5 feature is the presence of dual UHS-II SD card slots (something lacking in the range-topping Z 7, and a surprising omission given that model’s appeal to professional photographers).
