Shoot an igniting match
Macro photography can be mind-blowingly interesting by its very nature, but this close-up technique is verging on explosive
Using photography to capture the miniature world outside of human perception never fails to impress. It’s one of the most interesting technical aspects of photography, and capturing fast motion in macro images can produce an additional level of visual interest.
We’re going to take a look at a technique that looks like timing is key, which it is to an extent, but it’s the camera and flash settings that do all the hard work for you. For this technique, we’ll use off-camera flash to illuminate the match for more dramatic and interesting lighting than ambient light. Setting the flash to a low power setting means that not only will the flash direction be extremely short, but the flash will also recycle instantaneously allowing us to shoot with the camera set to a fast continuous frame rate.
