"Who is your community?” I was in my poetry class a nd these were the w ords the tutor had writt en onto the whiteboard t o prompt us. As my c lassmates feverishly scribbled down their poems, my page remained blank. Belonging was not something I had ever felt at this point. I was always too Black or too white, too masculine or too feminine, too queer or too straight. I never thought things would change.
