DIVA: What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A writer, but it took more than half my adult life for my working class work ethic to allow me to accept that writing can be a career and not just a hobby.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Probably commissioning Coming Out Night, a Channel 4 programming zone wrapped around the Ellen coming out episode. The tabloids went berserk.
Weirdest thing on your CV?
I got a place at Oxford University aged 43. Weird for someone who still hasn’t passed their Maths O Level.
Hidden talent?
I can rap to Rapper’s Delight by The Sugarhill Gang.
Has your sexuality ever been an issue at work?
Happily, I got my dream job because of my sexuality, which was commissioning LGBTQI content for Channel 4. I’ve been creating queer content for the last 25 years.
