IT IS DECEMBER ON EARTH, AND CHRISTMAS IS approaching. Wilfred Mott is in church when he encounters an enigmatic woman who recounts the legend of the Blue Box and a “sainted physician” who smote a demon in the 1300s. The following day, the woman reappears on Wilf’s television screen. Her message this time is less cryptic: Wilfred must take up arms to protect the Doctor.
