BOOK
Tomorrow, And Tomorrow, And Tomorrow bit.ly/tomorrowxthreeIt’s rare that we feature two books in one month, but Gabrielle Zevin’s novel about a pair of game developers is too good to exclude. It’s hard to think of a work outside of the medium that so clearly understands videogames. Pedants might quibble about some dates and details, but its saga is convincingly interwoven with real history, engaging with industry issues from sexism to auteurism and the dangers of entitled ‘fans’. Most important, though, is the way it captures how a life of gaming can reshape your understanding of the world. The title is an allusion to Shakespeare, yes, but also to the endless reliving enabled by save states, something we’ve surely all hoped for in our own lives. At many points, we find ourselves wishing the same for the novel’s characters.
