WELCOME
THIS MONTH, ONE of us found ourselves summoned to a shadowy chamber. There sat a mysterious stranger, a man accustomed to creating carnage. What followed in that room involved blood-curdling screams, the howling of wolves and images that would be hard to shake.
No, we weren’t meeting Count Orlok from Nosferatu —don’t be ridiculous. But we were doing the next best thing. In late October, our intrepid features editor, Alex Godfrey, was invited to a screening room in London (sadly, he took the Tube rather than a haunted, driverless carriage) to join director Robert Eggers in watching scenes from the film. Fortunately, Eggers proved much better company than the ancient vampyre upon whom his new film turns —he was happy to talk us through the on-screen grotesqueries in magnificent detail. Head to page 90 to read all about it.
