Chloé Zhao: “We didn’t have Star Wars when I was growing up. I saw it on VHS tape in boarding school. My order was all messed up. I watched The Phantom Menace first, before I watched the originals. There was no internet at that time. I remember seeing the poster of little Anakin and the shadow [of Darth Vader], and that poster affected me so much. I just knew, ‘Whatever that poster is saying, whoever that shadow is, is going to be my favourite character of all time.’ And it didn’t disappoint when I found the VHS tape of the original movies. So, ‘I am your father,’ was a very big one for me.”
