WELCOME
I DON’T KNOW about you, but I wasn’t expecting to end last year being scared silly by a 122-year-old poem. Yet when the teaser trailer for Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later landed, complete with a recital of Rudyard Kipling ’s anti-war ode ‘Boots’, that’s exactly what happened.
“Don’t — don’t — don’t — don’t look at what’s in front of you,” rumbled a haunted, scratchy voice (actor Taylor Holmes, recorded in 1915), as we got glimpses of a UK beset by flesh-hungry monsters. “Boots — boots — boots — boots movin’ up an’ down again/ Men — men — men — men — men go mad with watchin’ em/An’ there’s no discharge in the war!”
