Primal Scream had already been in existence for nine years when they released the album that many people still believe is their debut. Screamadelica was, in fact, the third record from Bobby Gillespie and co, but in many ways it was a new beginning for the band. Where their first two LPs – Sonic Flower Groove and its eponymously-titled follow-up Primal Scream – were pastel-coloured C86 jangle-pop, Screamadelica was the sound of a band newly in thrall to the ecstasy-drenched rave scene.
