It was literally one of those Sliding Doors instances – my life would have been completely different. I’d just split up with a girlfriend, I wasn’t doing anything and it was a free holiday”, explains Neil MacKenzie Matthews about an offer from school friend – and Spandau Ballet manager Steve Dagger – to see the band in the South of France in the summer of 1980.
