Classic Pop Presents  |  1982
Our 1980s series continues with 1982, 365 days of genres clashing, a bounty of classic albums and new stars being born in a year of rampant, untethered creativity that led to a global pop takeover.
Forty years on, some of the year’s stars take a look back at what was a life-changing year for all of them, including Culture Club, Haircut 100, Blancmange, Thompson Twins, Thomas Dolby and Imagination. We take a deep dive into the biggest and most inspirational albums of ’82 – and there were plenty – including Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, ABC, Roxy Music, Prince, The Jam, Yazoo, Kate Bush, Madness, Simple Minds, Elvis Costello, XTC, Associates, plus Laurie Anderson’s artful masterpiece Big Science.
On top of that, we revisit the opening of Manchester’s infamous Hacienda, we remember legendary music show The Tube, we review the year’s finest sleeve art, plus we’ve curated our soundtrack of the year.
Join us as we pay tribute to yet another golden year for pop music!
