Sunny D-light
Sunscreen protects skin from burning and reduces the risk of developing conditions like cancer, but lowers your vitamin D levels. Or does it? UVB light is essential to vitamin D synthesis and, in a new study, scientists compared two sunscreens with the same SPF, one of which had a higher UVA protection factor. Users of this lotion increased their levels of vitamin D in tests, likely because it allowed for more UVB transmission without damaging skin.
