‘I had to force myself to trust I’d still be here next week’
Words Francesca Specter and Laura Potter.
I wasn’t supposed to live past 36, so being 48 feels great. I’m happier than ever, and feel fantastic and more together. I modelled in my 20s, and looking back I was gorgeous – but I didn’t think so at the time, I thought I was fat and horrible.
I cherish the simple things. Today, my daughter Lela, 11, is sick, so I made her breakfast and my husband and I chatted with her while she ate. It was lovely. When I was ill, I wasn’t able to be the mum I wanted to be; my eldest son, Tariq, was five and I couldn’t even pick him up from school. Every moment is precious.
