Military Modelling International Magazine  |  August 1st 2014
Published almost exactly 100-years since Britain declared war on Germany on 4th August 1914, this issue is our "WW1 100th Anniversary Special". The cover's main images show Young Miniatures' British 'Tommy' bust and Sparta's French Saint-Chamond tank that's got itself somewhat stuck! Adrian Hopwood kicks off the special by describing how he painted the YM Tommy bust and added a tab (cigarette) to his mouth to add more character. Then Michael McLaughlin gets bogged down with his Sparta WW1 tank build! Next comes a masterpiece in miniature modelling as Andy Belsey builds a British Trench system of 1916 in 1:285 scale. Malcolm Cuming then paints WW1 Canadian flying Ace Billy Bishop VC in 54mm scale. Some more WW1 armour comes next as John Prigent builds the unusual looking Italian Lancia Ansaldo IZM Armoured Car. Gary Radford then gets airborne with his rendition of Wingnut Wings "outstanding kit" for the Fokker E.IV Eindecker. Adrian Hopwood returns with another painting feature, this time an ideal companion for the Eindecker build as it's a German LSK Pilot figure. To round off this special issue there's photos of WW1 re-enactors that the Editor has snapped at recent shows to provide uniform and equipment reference.
