BOO BOYS
I was lucky enough to combine a work trip to go and see MotoGP at Qatar, but having witnessed the booing of Jorge Lorenzo on the podium I left deeply saddened about the state of the sport. I’m not Lorenzo’s biggest fan, but I recognise the man has talent. To have controlled that race in the way he did showed excellent racecraft, skill and dogged determination – and for all of that he was rewarded by a section of ‘fans’ sticking it to him. I would have rather Rossi won, but he was easily beaten by a man on the same machine – and two others. That’s racing, it’s as simple as that. To descend to the depths of football tribalism does bike racing no favours whatsoever, but I believe Dorna is tacitly encouraging all of this in an effort to steal column inches. Rivalries spark interest in a sport, but to what end – abuse? That’s not right, is it…
