When I think back on all the crashes I’ve had it’s remarkable I’m still breathing. Of course, the main reason I’m not pushing up daisies is down to (luck and…) the protection I’ve worn; good lids; good leathers; good armour. Even when my bank balance has told me otherwise, I’ve always stretched for the best kit on the market… and those investments have paid off. Even last year, when I was bluelighted to ICU having had the biggest of highsides out of the Old Hairpin at Donny, I was eternally grateful I’d been wearing my Alpinestars’ Tech Air airbag. I had a suspected broken pelvis, lower back and right ankle, but my upper body was relatively scratch free, despite taking its equal share of punishment. I’d tested the airbag a few times prior to this self-harming exercise (with a lowside and highside earlier in the year), and on both occasions it had deployed impressively and protectively, and its Donington performance was no exception.
