What a tank(er)!
The first rule of project bikes; don’t go splashing your cash without knowing what you’re buying. Like a nob, I clocked some smart looking wheels on eBay and clicked the ‘buy it now’ button as if my life depended on it. Fast forward a few days and a pair of Aprilia RS125 wheels were in my possession. It wasn’t the fact they were scabbier than the pictures portrayed that got me chuntering, but more that they were way too big for what was needed. The Moto3 rules state you have to run a 2.5in front rim and a 3.5in rear. I knew that was the case, but still ended up buying wheels roughly an inch bigger each end. What a pleb! So, if you know anyone that’s after some Aprilia wheels, send themmy way. Lesson learned I’ve since spent an age on the internet trying to find donor wheels that meet the criteria. Let me tell you, it ain’t easy! Not unless you’ve got a shed load of money. If I had the cash to do what I wanted, I’d not think twice about spending a couple of grand on some fancy Dymags. But that seems more than a tad excessive. You could buy a ratty track bike for that, and because the plan is to race this bike I need two sets at least. That much money could buy you a house where I live…maybe even two?
