In the January 2023 issue of FlyPast, we salute the heroism of American airmen in World War Two by featuring George Haye’s superb Spitfire RW382 on the cover. Photographer Darren Harbar goes air-to-air with this most distinctively painted of British warbirds and describes the use of the type in US hands during World War Two’s Mediterranean theatre. Adorned in USAAF ‘stars and bars’, RW382 is one Spitfire that truly stands out.
