For the main section (Am7-D9) go for the A Minor Pentatonic scale (A-C-D-E-G) and A Dorian mode (A-B-C-D-E-F#-G), and for the B section (C9-D9-Am7). Add a little A Phrygian mode (A-Bb-C-D-E-F-G) on the C9 chords.
