SHEPHERDESS BAA-MY FOR LITTLE LAMB
Farmers are full of woolly warmth over the birth of a miracle lamb. The tiny Shetland, called Newt, was delivered in Brecon on 5 March and, standing at 15cm tall, is the smallest lamb ever encountered on the Welsh farm.
Weighing in at a mere 2lb at five days old – four to five times smaller than his twin brother – his appearance was a pleasant surprise for shepherdess Samantha Matthews (above with Newt). “When I picked him up I thought he was the placenta. I couldn’t believe it and presumed he was a stillborn,” she said. “I’ve never seen [a lamb] so small. I don’t know if anyone else has.”
