After struggling for years to find products to match her skin tone, TV baker Nadiya Hussain is fronting a new make-up campaign to encourage people to be more confident about who they are
INTERVIEW: KATE LOCKETT
Nadiya Hussain only started wearing make-up seven years ago, but now it sets her up for the day. “It’s like brushing your teeth – you can’t really go anywhere until you’ve brushed them. You’re not ready for the day,” she tells HELLO!. “Make-up gives me confidence, even if I’m just opening the door to the postman.”
Now the 37-year-old author and baker, who has children Musa, 16, Dawud, 15, and Maryam, 12, with husband Abdal, has landed her first beauty campaign as IT Cosmetics’s new ambassador for confidence, celebrating all skin tones, textures and ages.
“It’s not always easy to celebrate the thing that makes you different,” she says. “It has always been my skin. The colour that my body is enveloped in has made me feel excluded and unsure of the thing that I am most proud of today.
“Little old me would never have thought that I could be a part of something like this campaign. My 12-year-old daughter says it’s by far the best job that I’ve done to date.”
