CHILL FACTOR
Impeccably designed with mountain vistas worth shouting about, these are the coolest snow-cloaked hideouts to set your sights on this winter…
CERVO MOUNTAIN RESORT
THE STAY: Presided over by the mighty Matterhorn, the Swiss resort of Zermatt delivers on near enough everything you could wish for in a glimmering winter playground. Jutting out above the village itself you’ll find Cervo Mountain Resort. It’s one of the more recent additions to the scene and suites are very easy on the eye, strung between a clutch of neighbouring chalets and assuming a cool yet cocooning aesthetic with subdued lighting, wall-hung antlers aplenty and a dusting of artisan-made wares.
As far as local-leaning skiing fuel goes, the hearty Valais plates at Ferdinand pack a punch every time – the gooey truffle raclette is the ultimate cocklewarmer – and it’d be churlish not to steal a quiet interlude or two at the peaceful Mountain Ashram spa. Best of all, though, you’re tremendously well placed: thrill-chasers can reach the Sunnegga Express funicular in seconds, meaning more time to nail those gnarly descents, and skiers with stamina can schuss straight across the Italian border and down into Cervinia for an espresso.
