Wearing their plumed hats and velvet robes, the Knights and Ladies of the Order of the Garter make their way 49 through the grounds of Windsor Castle for this year’s ceremony
To the delight of crowds gathered inside the grounds of Windsor Castle, the King took part in the first Garter Day ceremony of his reign last week.
His Majesty, now Sovereign of the Garter, wore the feathered velvet cap and robes of the Order to process through the castle precincts to St George’s Chapel, watched by thousands of people who had applied to witness the spectacle.
In glorious sunshine, he and the Queen, who wore her Garter robes over a white dress by Bruce Oldfield, smiled at the 2,900 spectators lining the route as they walked down Castle Hill behind the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Princess Royal.
