FRIENDS PAY TRIBUTE TO STAR AND ‘CHAMPION OF THE UNDERDOG’
Seven months after his death, Paul O’Grady’s closest friends attended a service in his memory last week.
Stars including Carol Vorderman, Amanda Holden and Alan Carr joined around 320 guests at London’s Bloomsbury Ballroom to honour the TV presenter, who passed away suddenly in March at the age of 67.
Paul’s husband Andre Portasio delivered a moving speech, while Celia Imrie offered special words from the Queen, who was unable to attend.
Her Majesty had a close friendship with the presenter, working with him to support Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, an organisation close to both their hearts. When his death was announced, the Palace released a statement that read: “Deeply saddened to hear of the death of Paul O’Grady, who worked closely with Her Majesty in support of Battersea, providing lots of laughter and many waggy-tailed memories.”
