ELIZABETH II
DRAWING ON HER LOVE OF NATURE
PLANS ARE UNVEILED FOR A COLOURFUL MEMORIAL GARDEN
Queen Elizabeth II’s love of nature was widely known.
Now it will be recognised in a garden that will open in 2026, to mark the 100th anniversary of her birth
Anew garden commemorating the life of Queen Elizabeth II will open in London’s Regent’s Park on what would have been her 100th birthday.
The public is being invited to view and give feedback on proposals for the tranquil two-acre garden, which will transform a former plant nursery into a biodiverse public space featuring hedgerows, trees, meadows, wildlife-attracting plants and a new pond.
Artist’s drawings showing how it will look also include a pergola with climbing plants, while a disused water tower will be transformed into an accessible viewing platform.
Plant species that were significant to the monarch’s life will also feature, while a straight path running through the garden will represent her “unwavering service and loyalty”, with each end offering “a moment of quiet reflection”, according to the website of the Royal Parks charity, which has commissioned London practice HTA Design to plan the project.
