In a series full of beautifully made and historically detailedgowns, a teal satin dress with a pink floral appliqué worn by Claire Foy is one of the most celebrated costumes in The Crown.
Last week, the design – a re-creation of an outfit that belonged to Queen Elizabeth II, who was played by Claire in the hit Netflix series, and which was faithfully reproduced for the show, appearing in two episodes during season two – sold for £3,200 at Bonhams.
Fans were given the chance to bid on more than 470 items that went under the hammer: 161 lots were sold in a live auction in London, with the rest sold online. The proceeds of £1.67m will help establish the Left Bank Pictures – The Crown Scholarship Programme to support students at the National Film and Television School, which has locations across the UK.
