Montell Douglas: has been selected to compete for Great Britain in bobsleigh
MARK SHEARMAN
FORMER British 100m record-holder Montell Douglas has become the latest British athlete to convert from the track to the ice after she was announced on Monday as part of the Great British bobsleigh team for this winter’s World Cup.
Douglas, the second fastest British woman to run the 100m, with a personal best of 11.05 from 2008, joins the country’s current No.1 100m runner, Joel Fearon, and 2004 Olympic 4x100m gold medallist Mark Lewis-Francis as part of the British squad.
The 30-year-old said she was first approached about making the switch three years ago and opted to keep her focus on the track, but now feels the time has come to try something new.
“I’m excited. I didn’t really get nervous about it at all because I felt it’s a new challenge,” said Douglas, who will join up with the team to prepare this winter before having her first full run on the ice after Christmas.
