After reaching the World Youth Champs in Colombia in 2015, Jake Norris is aiming to win a medal at the European Youth Championships in Tbilisi
MARK SHEARMAN
WHEN Jake Norris’s headmaster heard that his pupil had set a UK under-18 hammer record, he announced that the Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow athlete could throw a 5kg missile further than he (the headmaster) could run. To what extent his Desborough College headmaster was speaking tongue-in-cheek is open to debate, but his claim only serves to emphasise the 16-year-old’s talent.
Fresh from his national record of 78.54m with the 5kg hammer at the Loughborough International last month, Jake has his sights set on getting on the podium at the European Youth Championships this summer as well as continuing to improve his PB. “This year my biggest target is to get a medal at the European Youth Championships,” he says. “I would also like to throw over 70m with the 6kg hammer and perhaps get over the 80m mark with the 5kg hammer as an under-18.”
