THE secretary general of the Russian Athletics federation (RusAF), Mikhail Butov, has been suspended from the IAAF Council until his nation is judged to have cleaned up its act.
In addition, race walkers Denis Nizhegorodov (the 2011 World 50km champion and former world record-holder) and Svetlana Vasilyeva (the 2013 European under-23 20km championr) have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in a bid to overturn the IAAF’s decision to ban the Russian team from competing in Rio.
Russian Olympic Committee president Aleksander Zhukov said it was “an extreme injustive and humiliation” to clean Russian athletes.
