Fashion is often a trailblazer for social progress, and an industry where the LGBTQ community can flourish. The top jobs have, more often than not, gone to out-gay men: Dean and Dan Caten, Edward Enninful, Mert and Marcus, and Tom Ford, to name a few. Historically, it’s true that many of the early trailblazers were forced to hide their sexuality for the sake of success, but it’s also a fact that photographers, designers, editors, hair and make-up artists and other creatives in fashion have been on a quicker trajectory in being celebrated for being out and proud, compared with other sectors. But there’s one area in the industry that continues to lag behind: out gay male models.
