Australian Railway History  |  Dec-16
The opening of Australia's first underground suburban electric railway from Central Station to St James Station on 20 December 1926 leads this issue, given that its 90th Anniversary will be celebrated this month. Frank Johnson provides a well-researched and illustrated account of the massive task of constructing the tunnels and underground stations in the days before mechanical earth moving equipment was available.
The issue also features Peter Hancock's interesting account of Narrandera during the 1950s when it was an important rail center. Peter also documents Narrandera's decline as a rail center.
Ken Williams concludes his three-part series on 'Parcels and Small Consignments on the NSW Railways' with his account of the State Rail Authority's Trackfast era to 2003. It is illustrated with photos of Trackfast Centres and the Labels used for consignments to NSW and inter-state centres. The issue concludes with a detailed index for Volume 67.
