Cage & Aviary Birds  |  No.5819 Native birds in focus
YES, WE’VE REACHED that point in the year
when Cage & Aviary Birds includes its nowregular
special supplement to preview and
celebrate the forthcoming National Exhibition at
Stafford on Sunday, October 12. You’ll find the
supplement in the centre of this issue, and I’d like to thank
my colleagues and, in particular, Parrot Society UK
secretary Les Rance for their help in assembling it.
Why are we banging the drum for this event at the start
of September? One reason is to give the whole bird fancy
ample time to enter the shows. Most exhibitors will have it
clear, but some may not, that the clubs that participate in
the National Exhibition hold their open shows there, so if
you fancy putting up some of your birds, turn to pages
10-14 of the enclosed supplement and you’ll find an advert
with contact
details for the
club most
relevant to what
you keep.
You’ve still got
plenty of time to
ring the show
secretary and
sort out an entry. I must add that, if you’re thinking of
attending and want to make the most of the day, then
supporting the shows adds that perfect extra dimension.
And if you’ve cleared a space in your diary to visit anyway,
then you should have a clear day to exhibit, shouldn’t you?
Deep thanks to Sam Wildes (see letter, left) for
nominating us for the Ice Bucket Challenge. Nothing we’d
like better, Sam, but Kelsey Media has already done its
duty, with a former C&AB staffer among the victims and a
current one among the pourers. I’d post a link to a video,
but it would be more than my life’s worth, capisce?
Ed’s Quote of the Week: “A juvenile pair of barking
owls were housed very close to the platypusary.” Not
something out of Edward Lear, in fact,
but a quite normal state of affairs in an
Australian zoo. See page 13 for details.
And enjoy your birds this week.
