Ashley McBryde: one of last year’s breathrough stars and destined for the C2C main stage
Ashley McBryde toiled away in the foothills of country music for years, rated by aficionados, but largely unknown to the mainstream, until she got her big break and released her major label debut, Girl Going Nowhere, in 2018. Eric Church championed her, Garth Brooks covered her, and she’ll play the main arena stage at C2C 2019. The girl from Mammoth Springs, Arkansas might be everyone’s favourite new discovery, but she’s taking absolutely nothing for granted on this “mind-blowing adventure”…
You were here for C2C 2018, but are back this year on the headliner stage. How does that feel?
My first time here was really mind-blowing. It’s like when you blow in a dog’s face and they don’t know what to do, there is so much love coming at you at the same time, so I was excited to get back.
Is this how you visualised success?
It changes all the time. Playing the Opry was a huge goal, and once that became reality I wondered, what’s next? I got a slot on late night TV, then another slot on a slightly bigger show, then another, so it’s a self-raising bar.
